Terms of Membership, Products, and Services

We may not be the police, but UACDL will enforce these terms of membership

By becoming a UACDL member (or renewing a membership) you are certifying that you are either a practicing criminal defense attorney in the state of Utah or a law student who intends on becoming a criminal defense attorney. You agree not to share emails, instructional materials, briefs, videos, or other documents or information with individuals outside of UACDL. You also agree not to share emails from our listserv with others outside of UACDL. With the exception of limited memberships by law students, UACDL does not accept memberships from attorneys or others working outside of criminal defense including prosecutors or judges.

These restrictions are meant to allow defense attorneys to feel free to share questions, pass along information, and brainstorm solutions to tough problems with other defense attorneys. When information is shared outside of UACDL it harms the free exchange of ideas and information inside a creative community meant to support defense attorneys.

If you are not a practicing defense attorney in the state of Utah (either in the state or admitted to the federal bar in Utah) or law student who intends on becoming a criminal defense attorney in the state of Utah (or admitted to the federal bar in Utah), your membership may be rejected or terminated. By going forward with your membership application/renewal, you are agreeing to abide by these terms. You also agree that if your membership is rejected or terminated for violating any of the terms of membership listed here or on the Listserv policies page, you will not be eligible for a refund for purchase of a membership or other purchases.

If you are a paralegal/legal assistant/social worker whose work involves criminal defense, UACDL will accept your membership on the same basis as a law student with the same terms and conditions. You may not be a paralegal/legal assistant/social worker member if your work does not include services in support of criminal defense.

Regardless of the type of membership, any access to CLEs, trainings, videos, handouts, briefs, templates, information contained in web pages, or any other information shared by or disseminated by UACDL or through its listserv, including unauthorized recordings of CLEs or materials shared by attorneys on the listserv, is conditioned upon your agreement to abide by the terms of membership. You may not share, disseminate, sell, circulate, provide, give, or otherwise transfer anything identified in the paragraph with any other person who is not a UACDL member. Unless expressly authorized by UACDL, you may not purchase any UACDL product, service, or register to attend a UACDL seminar, CLE, or event unless you are also a member. The information and materials described in this paragraph is what gives UACDL its value, revenue, and highly esteemed reputation as a provider of quality criminal defense education and resources. UACDL members expect that membership in the organization gives them special access to these materials and information that does not disseminate outside of the organization. For that reason, by breaching the terms of this paragraph, or any other paragraph, you agree that such a breach causes harm to UACDL’s business and reputation and agree to liquidated damages of $3,000 per breach. UACDL also reserves the right to cancel any purchase of a product, service, or registration and further reserves the right to deny any refund, in whole or in part, for a purchase that is in violation of these terms. These terms refers to any and all applicable term or condition provided on this page or anywhere else on UACDL’s website that supplements the terms and conditions provided on this page.

If you have any questions about these terms and conditions, please contact [email protected] before moving forward.
